Admissions Policy
East West College of Natural Medicine welcomes all applicants who demonstrate a sincere interest in the study and practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine; who show a high level of personal integrity; have a history of personal and professional achievement; a record of successful academic performance; and the maturity and commitment to undertake an intensive program of study on the graduate level.
Admission Requirements
The Governing Board of the East West College of Natural Medicine has established the admissions policies, requirements, and procedures. Our admission policies are aligned with the goals and purpose of the College. They are subject to constant review, evaluation, and redesign as the demands of the field of Oriental Medicine evolve. The admissions policy of this college is to remain in keeping with Federal laws, the laws of the State of Florida, and national Oriental Medical education standards. Admission requirements include both General and Essential Standards.

General Requirements for Admission
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must hold a valid high school diploma
- Have at least two years of undergraduate study from an accredited college or university; and have earned a 2.0 (“C”) grade point average. (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of courses with a “C” or higher grade)
- At least 19 (28 quarter hours) of those 60 credits must be taken in the four general education and liberal arts areas listed below with a minimum of at least 3.0 credits in each of the respective areas:
- Humanities/Fine Arts
- Social Behavioral Sciences
- English/Communications
- Science/Mathematics
Essential Standards Requirement: For Admission, Progression and Graduation
A candidate for admission must be able to demonstrate acceptable levels of independence, cognitive skills and physical aptitude to be able to perform successfully at the College and in the Oriental Medical profession. These areas of proficiency include, but are not limited to observation skills, motor skills, communication skills, analytical skills, and emotional maturity. All Essential requirements are considered minimal standards for admission, progression and graduation from the College.
Technology:Candidates must demonstrate computer literacy and be capable of adapting to new trends in technology that may be needed for success in the program.
Observation: The functional use of vision, touch and olfactory senses are necessary for the candidate to be able to accurately observe a patient. Observation skills must be proficient to perform at a distance and close at hand.
Motor:The candidate must possess adequate mobility, strength and equilibrium to safely practice and treat patients. Coordination of both fine and gross motor skills is required to accurately diagnosis patients and to safely administer many clinical techniques. Proficiency will be determined by the candidate’s ability to efficiently and correctly execute patient care including, but not limited to palpation, auscultation, CPR, applying pressure to bleeding, effortless insertion and extraction
of needles, and assisting patients on and off of the exam table when required.
Communication:In the diagnosis and treatment of patients it is necessary to elicit and relay information accurately. A candidate must be able to speak, hear, read and write effectively in order to efficiently diagnose and communicate with patients and other health professionals.
Analytical:Critical thinking and problem solving is required in the treatment of patients. Candidates must be able to absorb and retain information, while integrating it in a meaningful and logical manner.
Behavioral and Professional Attributes:A candidate must possess the vigorous level of emotional health required to maintain and develop mature relationships with their peers, patients and faculty. Candidates must be flexible, adaptive and able to manage stress, while functioning under uncertain and often fast paced clinical conditions. Compassion, interest and motivation are personal traits that are considered essential throughout enrollment at the College.
